While IT is the foundation for helping care systems to advance their missions, it is often challenging to bring innovation to life in ways that truly enhance operations and the quality of care.
From issues with system performance and software reliability to an ongoing reliance on paper processes, there are a wide range of IT challenges that need to be overcome to fully modernize health systems.
Located in Central and West Texas, Tolar Systems offers a wide-range of IT services for small- and medium-sized enterprises, which includes health systems like the Shackelford County Health Clinic.
Based in Albany, Texas, Shackelford County Health Clinic is a rural healthcare provider with eight employees, including office medical staff. Tolar Systems was brought onboard to help overcome system backup issues, enhance software reliability and update the provider’s electronic medical record system.
With regards to the latter, doctors in the clinic were unwilling to let go of paper processes and move management of patient health records into the software, which would reduce the ROI in the application as well as impact workloads within the office since patient information had to be maintained both electronically and on paper.
Tolar Systems addressed this issue by overseeing the purchase of new tablets and hardware and installed a new database server and electronic fax server that could integrate with their core applications. As a result, Shackelford has enhanced integration with other care organizations in the region.
“Since we have been working with Tolar Systems, we have been able to eliminate most of our reliance on paper and rely mainly on the software. Paper records are now used mostly for reference. Our medical staff are confident enough in our IT systems to let go of the paper charts, and I believe this is because of the support we get from Tolar Systems,” said Jera Fairley, Shackelford Administrator, in this case study.
The power of IT has the ability to transform how care organizations operate. Tolar Systems is a prime example of how the right outsourced partners can help bring innovation to life in ways that advance care.
